When someone in the community is harmed, everyone is harmed in some way. There is never just one victim of a crime; all members of the community are harmed when a crime is committed because the bonds that hold it together have been damaged.

Fania E. Davis, from Birmingham, Alabama, is a leading international voice at the intersection of racial and restorative justice. She has been a social justice activist for decades and is a civil rights trial lawyer; she is also an educator with a PhD in Indigenous Knowledge.
A writer and international speaker on restorative justice, racial justice, truth processes and Indigeneity, she also presents herself as a mother, grandmother, dancer, meditator and practitioner of yoga, qigong and African spirituality.

Davis came of age in Birmingham, Alabama, during the early civil rights era. Those formative years — particularly the murder of two close childhood friends in the bombing of a Sunday school in 1963 — crystallised her lifelong commitment to social transformation.
Over the following decades, she actively participated in civil rights movements in the United States in support of the liberation of Black people, women, incarcerated people, peace, economic justice and against violence towards racialised people and apartheid.
Learning with Indigenous African healers was a catalyst in her search for healing justice, which ultimately led her to become founder and director of the Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth Foundation and a founding member of the National Association of Community and Restorative Justice.

Her many honours include the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Restorative Justice, the Black Feminist Shapeshifters and Waymakers Award, the Tikkun Award — Repair the World — the Ella Jo Baker Human Rights Award and the Ebony Power 100 Award. The Los Angeles Times named her a new civil rights leader of the 21st century.
She recently received the Justice Rising Award from Open Society Foundations, which recognises 16 Black movement leaders working for racial justice in the United States. Among Davis’s publications is The Little Book of Race and Restorative Justice: Black Lives, Justice, and U.S. Social Transformation.

Restorative justice, inspired by Indigenous ideas, seeks to repair broken relationships by addressing wrongdoing and finding solutions that involve all stakeholders and members of the community.

[12

post-828","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-actualidad
["GET
